Good evening again NOVAC!

NOVAC is still looking for judges to help with our outreach to local
secondary students at science fairs this spring.

As in the past, NOVAC will provide awards to encourage students with
projects in astronomy and related STEM areas. These awards include
certificates, star atlases, and monetary awards. Both the $1000 award and
the act of our participation honor our past president Phil Wherry, who was
a dedicated organizer and educator.

Based on recent experience, we plan to participate at the Arlington,
Fairfaix, and Loudoun fairs. Judging at Arlington and Fairfax fairs is on
Saturday morning, March 21. Loudoun judging is on Thursday morning, March
19.

No prior experience is required. Judges need at least a basic understanding
of astronomy and an interest in speaking with high school students who
themselves have attempted to gain a better understanding of the field.
Teams will be organized so that there is at least one experienced judge at
each location. NOVAC sets its own, uniform criteria for making awards.

Participating in a science fair is a rewarding experience, an opportunity
to encourage the next generation to become amateur sky watchers or
professional scientists, and a very satisfying way to spend a morning with
astronomy outreach, rain or shine.

If you are interested or have questions, send Alan Goldberg (vp at novac.com)
an email or see him at the meeting on Sunday.

That's my last message for tonight. :-)

See many of you tomorrow,
-Chris
