[NOVAC announcement] NOVAC Volunteer Recognition

Throughout the year many NOVAC members give their time to make sure we can
observe and help others observe. These volunteers take on tasks that are
large (like organizing AHSP) and small (like drafting announcement emails).
Some are very public (providing outreach services) and others are private
(like managing the library). Without these volunteers, though, NOVAC simply
would not function.

On February 2 the club would like to recognize these volunteers with two
specials shows, at 4:00pm and 5:00pm, at the David M Brown Planetarium in
Arlington. The Planetarium will screen *Undiscovered Worlds*, a ~34 minute
show about the Kepler mission and the explosive discovery of exoplanets.

If you were a volunteer for NOVAC in 2018, in any capacity, this is for
you! You can sign up for a ticket to see one of the shows by simply
sending an email to volunteers at novac.com saying “Hi! I’m a volunteer that
did ______ and do (or don’t) want to attend the event! I do (or don’t)
want to bring one guest with me to the planetarium show if space allows. I
prefer to attend the earlier (or later) (or either) show.”

Yes, we want to hear from you and learn how you volunteered, even if you
can’t attend.

The deadline to sign up is January 29, 2019. After that, we will confirm
your ticket, as well as tickets for any guests we can accommodate.

The Planetarium can accommodate 45 people for each show. Our volunteers get
top seating priority, and guests can be seated as space allows. We promise
to let you know by January 30 if there will be a seat for your guest.

We have reserved the upper floor at Rocklands BBQ (3471 Arlington Blvd,
Arlington, VA), a 2 minute drive from the planetarium, between 3 and 5pm,
and invite you to come before the shows to pick up your certificate of
thanks and enjoy each other’s company. You will be able to order food
individually if you wish.

Thank you, volunteers, for the effort you put in to NOVAC. You are our
stars.

coming and going to use the swimming pool. There is a parking deck behind
the planetarium, most easily accessed from either North Stafford Street or
North 15th Street. The Virginia Square Metro Line (Orange and Silver) is a
15 minute walk. Metrobus 38B runs frequently between Rosslyn and Ballston
and stops ½ block from the planetarium.

Doors will open 15 minutes ahead of show times so that you can be seated
for the show start. After the show starts the doors are not opened for
late arrivals.

How do I reserve a seat?

Seating is with tickets which are distributed in order of receipt of email
sent to volunteers at novac.com. If you wish to request a ticket for your
guest, let us know their name in your email. Please read on for how tickets
for guests are distributed.

Can guests attend, too?

Each member is welcome to request a guest ticket for seats as they become
available. NOVAC Members serving as volunteers during 2018 have first
ticketing priority. You will be notified by email early January 30 if a
seat is available and have the 30th and 31st to confirm acceptance and
receive an additional ticket.

What if I can’t attend?

Please send a note to volunteers at novac.com if something comes up and you
cannot attend so guests on the waiting list can attend.
