Hello, NOVAC, and happy New Year!

*January General Meeting, 7:00 - 9:00pm, January 13, GMU*
Our monthly club meeting is scheduled for January 13, 7:00pm in Room 163 of
Research Hall on the GMU campus. Information about the location is on the
NOVAC website here:
https://www.novac.com/wp/outreach/meetings/gmu-research-hall/
Starting this month we will include a tour of what's in the sky in the
first half of the meeting to arm you all with information on what's up.

Our speaker this month is NOVAC's own Pete Johnson, speaking on Astronomy
101. Did you get or give a telescope or binoculars (or other astronomy
equipment) as a gift this holiday season? This presentation to help you get
started successfully using your new tools.

Club meetings are open to the public, so please feel free to invite friends
and neighbors.

January's board meeting (4:00pm) serves as NOVAC's annual meeting as
required by Virginia law and our articles of incorporation.Club members
are, of course, welcome to attend.

Our pre-meeting dinner will be at Brion's Grille at 5:30pm. All are welcome
to join for some food and astronomical camaraderie. 10621 Braddock Rd,
Fairfax, VA 22032

*January Member Observing Session, 7:00pm January 12, Great Meadow - Family
Friendly Event*
5089 Old Tavern Rd, The Plains, VA 20198
January's member observing session (MOS) is going to be at Great Meadow, on
January 12, starting at 7:00pm. This is an excuse for us to meet as a group
at one of our dark sites and observe together. Bring your scope or
binoculars and let's enjoy observing together. The Moon will be visible
during the early part of the evening and is a great target for kids to
view. This is also an opportunity to take advantage of the collective
wisdom of the group and to ask questions, get tips, check out gear, and so
forth.

The address of Great Meadow is pasted in above, but also check the Member's
Only > Club Observing Sites page and click the coordinates for the Great
Meadow observing field to see exactly where we congregate in this big field.

*The rain date (cloud date?) is January 20, and will coincide with the
Lunar eclipse.*

Best wishes and clear skies!
-Chris
